17th Annual Galena Oktoberfest
Sat, Oct 05 , 2024 11:00am - 10:00pm
91 Bouthillier Street, Galena, IL 61036
Family Fun, Live Polka Music, Wiener Dog Racing, plus German-style Food and Beer, headline this years popular event!
The 17th Annual event will begin at noon with a cannon blast, tapping of the keg, and polka music. There's something for everyone at Galena Oktoberfest! Some of the main attractions include wiener dog races, polka music and dancing lessons, live entertainment, contests and more.
The wiener dog races will follow the raising of the flag by the Galena Fire Department and the singing of the national anthem. The big tent will feature plenty of seating with polka music, dance floor, and polka dancing lessons. A children’s activity area is clearly designated, providing pumpkin decorating and games.
The Goodtime Dutchmen, band from southeastern Wisconsin, will warm up the dance floor. The Potosi Rolling Bar is set up by the racetrack, ready to provide root beer and a variety of brews. Oktoberfest merchandise will be for sale, including t-shirts, posters, and mugs. All food and beer are available with tickets, and tickets are sold at $1 each at the booth. During the event, two talented musicians from New Glarus, Wisconsin will occasionally play some beautiful music on the alpenhorns. George & Heinz have been performing at this event for many years, and patrons enjoy their music. New Earth Animals will have toys and treats for sale, and Safe Haven will bring along several pets available for adoption.
The popular Beer Stein Endurance Contest is also a crowd-pleaser. This competition involves holding a 16-ounce full beer mug out in front with a straight arm for as long as possible. There will be a men’s and a women’s competition. There will also be a Bean Bag Tournament for adults. Patrons can sign up, pay a fee, and winners receive prizes.
Hosted by the Galena Lions Club, all proceeds from this event will go back to the community to serve those in need. Pre-registration is required for Wiener Dog Races and Bean Bag Tournament.
Wagons, wheelchairs, walkers, and all leashed, friendly dogs are welcome.
