Jane Addams, Nobel Peace Prize winner and pioneering social reformer, is buried in Cedarville Cemetery in Cedarville, Illinois. Her modest grave reflects her lifelong dedication to peace, justice, and service.
Jane Addams, born and raised in Cedarville, was an internationally famous humanitarian and social work pioneer who founded Hull House and won the Nobel Peace Prize. The Addams family plot is marked with an obelisk, in Cedarville Cemetery, a short distance from her birthplace at the John H. Addams Homestead. At Addams' request, her tombstone epitaph mentions her as associated with Hull House and the Women's International League for Peace and Freedom, but neglects to mention her Nobel Peace Prize. Addams penned this epitaph herself.
