Wapello Land & Water Reserve
8642 Illinois 84, Hanover, IL 61041
Bird & Eagle Watching
The 170-acre Wapello Land and Water Reserve is an important, historical place that tells the story of the impact the lives of indigenous people had on the evolution of human culture.
Remnants of a large prehistoric village and ceremonial mound inhabited between circa AD 1050 and AD 1350 are so significant that the site has been placed on the National Register of Historic Places. Points of interest with interpretive signage can be found along trails that wind through one of the most impressive, short-grass prairie restorations in Illinois. A picnic pavilion is located next to the parking lot. Dogs on leash welcome.
