Founded in 1904 and housed in a historic courthouse, the McLean County Museum of History explores the people and stories that shaped Central Illinois—including those who lived alongside, met, or worked with Abraham Lincoln.
Located in downtown Bloomington, Illinois, the McLean County Museum of History explores the rich and diverse history of Central Illinois. Housed in the historic 1903 courthouse, the museum traces its roots to 1892 and features award-winning exhibits, educational programs, and extensive collections.
Its stories span from the lifeways of the Kickapoo and other Native nations to pioneer settlement, immigration, agriculture, labor, and civic life. The museum holds over 18,000 artifacts, 10,000 library volumes, and 1,500 feet of archival materials. Popular programs include hands-on activities for children and annual events like the Evergreen Cemetery Walk and Christmas at the Courthouse.
